The NBA is not as free flowing it once was, and also to many players now play only for themselves ie: Alan Ivereson scores 36 in a game but he takes 45 shots to do it.

Me and a mate were discussing this last night over a couple of drinks about tennis. To me, it's just real life Pong. Hit the ball backwards and forwards until someone misses or miss hits it. That's about it...my opinion anyway.

There is a lot more to basketball than meets the uneducated eye...I've been playing for 8 years and I'm always improving or learning something new about it.

Nothing surprised me as such. The basics (dribbling, passing, shooting, etc) are of course easy to get hold of...but it doesn't stop at that. As corny as it sounds, learning different plays, different ways to move the ball, different types of defense. Anyone can do the basics with enough practice...but the way you play could be the difference between winning and losing.

All sounds wanky to someone who doesn't play the game...but there is alot more to it than just throwing it in a hoop.

If you have truely "mastered" the elements of the game, you should go to the NBA and make millions of dollars a year cos they are desperately screaming out for ppl who have mastered the game.

BTW I played basketball for 15 years, played cricket, indoor cricket, indoor soccer, futsol and mixed netball. Spend most of my free time at home watching sports, yet i dont like sport? Doesnt seem to make much sense, so perhaps you should change your name to Captain fuckwit?

You can always learn something new in basketball , like most sports I guess , and they can be the most simple of things that you had never thought of.
I get much more pleasure out of coaching than playing now , as it opens up different doors again.
I play with a guy who played State league a fair few years ago now and he has forgotten more than I could possibly remember ( nice cliche , right up there with one week at a time ) and I pick his mind every chance I get .
