View Full Version : Moderator Bias and their Epic Fails

TLDR WARNING

Since the beginning of forums, posters around the world have complained that a major problem with mods is that they are often biased towards certain posters based on trivial matters (like what team you go for, maybe they were pwned by a poster recently etc)

Forum owners and moderators have always countered that nearly always this is not the case and that only responsible people are given mod jobs (Reep excluded) and that they are "beyond" this pettiness etc.

Well over time this myth has been perpetuated into almost "truth status" worthy of rivalling other modern Myths like 'Murray's friends all being big boys', 'Benny C having a real disability' and 'Catfish Jake being a broke self conscious awkward guy who doesn't have luck with the ladies'

Most of the time mods are very good at covering up their blatant bias and epic fails by trickery, lies, deletions and deflection of the issues.

Every now and then a mod will let their guard down or they slip through the cracks during the process to determine if a potential mod has any fucking clue about anything.

Well I'd like to provide exhibit A for the posters.

Here is my reply to a mod who said on the SC & P board
the Howard gov were the meanest gov in history

They were mean

oh didums. Did they make you cry all the time during their 11 years of power? Hope mummy made it better ;)

They're not running a bloody day care centre FFS, they were running a country with a 9 billion dollar deficit, a crippled tax system and unions that were stifling the chance for our country to prosper. That's exactly the time you need a government with some balls to shake things up and make some hard decisions.

now here is part of his reply,

Yes, they were mean, economically they were good.

I do not appreciate the comments about hiding behind my mother but if you need to drag things to the gutter so be it.

LOL, bit touchy on the mum thing.....hmmmmm, glad i didn't suggest he fucked her!

Anyway a few posts later this to a poster who shares similar political views and/or hasn't mentioned his mummy lately.

They don't exist. <lets not bring other posters names into the debate please :) - GB>

and to me on the very same issue

<No using other posters names in debates. First warning - GB>

Blaming the liberal party for ABC :rolleyes:

That's the bias,

The epic fail is that the post originally quoted the poster 'Chase the ace' and said

Surely you're not blaming the liberal party for ABC Murray

So whilst showing his complete bias he has warned me for calling an alias by their previous username on bigfooty LOL

So what are some examples or stories you have seen of other blatant moderator bias and moderator epic fails?

I have heard nothing but good reports about goldenblue when he was a mod for the west coast board. However this is the second time i have seen someone upset at him on Big Footy since changing positions.

I get emails like this on a weekly basis. Or should it be 'weakly'? The premise of some crazy rebel dropping truth bombs about some Earth-shattering revelation of human bias is pathetically thin.

Moderators are sometimes biased. I am sometimes biased. It's what human beings do. Sometimes you just get someone on a bad day, or get on their nerves one too many times. We try to minimise this but of course it will happen. You'd be an absolute fool to pretend that this is some sort of secret. Bring a mod's mother into it and you're just asking for a Red Card you idiot.

The topper?

In this case I am completely unable to see what the actual bias is. Bias? In giving two people almost exactly the same warning for exactly the same thing?

Jebus, there's a whole thread in the BF Suggestions Board about how we sometimes turn a blind eye to banned users returning if they behave themselves or are entertainingly stupid under their new user account.

The only Epic Fail here is your attempt at showing you've somehow caught someone compromising themselves when there's actually no compromising action!

Dude...

So basically the OP is having a dig at GB for being bias, when in reality he is really just defending his mother?

I think the OP should read a dictionary to understand the word 'bias'.

It doesn't matter, Like Obi-Wan said, "You can't win, Darth. If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine".

And in the end, yes it will go to thread hell because I don't want to deal with BF stuff over here on TLC. Again, not a secret.

SHIT JUST GOT REAL:eek:

Roger, i know that the very subject matter must trigger your protective instincts like a lioness with cubs but i would have thought the tone of the whole post being a bit of a pisstake at a minor bit of bias (with the Murray twist as a kicker) would have come through loud and clear:rolleyes:

It was bias, it was blatantly clear, but it was extremely minor and it was no big deal and i thought it was hilarious in light of the earlier reaction to the mummy comment and then the fact that it wasn't even a posters name but a username for an alias.

And if you can't see the clear difference in the way the exact same issue was handled (which was funny) and you think that saying "Hope mummy made it better" with a ;) is worth a red card then you're hanging on too tight.

I guess after dealing with thousands of BS cases on the subject and related matters, it is never going to be a light hearted subject to discuss

I think the OP should read a dictionary to understand the word 'bias'.

oh for fucks sake, i think you should read the post again.

If you think saying "Hope mummy made it better" ;) requires defending like that, or at all, then you should harden the fuck up.

Secondly, The thread was a bit of a pisstake on the whole "mods are biased" and the "if i could just prove they are out to get me but they cover their tracks so well" mentality many people have.

We all know mods are human and react like anyone else so of course some bias will come into play, clearly, but some posters think mods are out to get them all the time and in 98% of cases they aren't, very occasionally the mods are though

The absurdity of it was i was saying, this is the best proof i could come up with, a very minor bias in dealing with 2 posters over the same issue.

Anyway, clearly it is a subject that fucking sucks now and gets taken way to seriously, even on TLC.

Seems my plan to ignite a posters V mods (which really meant TLC V Reep complete with bannings and user name changes) flame on is fucked due to a couple of people pouring a big bucket of serious all over the fucker.

Some stupid admin at BF gave me this

Dear Ron,

You have received an infraction at BigFooty.

Reason: Admin Discretionary Ban (Admin Only)
-------
Naming player in drug use rumour.
-------

This infraction is worth 1000 point(s) and may result in restricted access until it expires. Serious infractions will never expire.

All because i posted a picture of a cartoon turtle, that's it, i got a 1000 point ban because of a turtle. It was clearly because the certain admin had it in for me big time. He was jealous that i was more awesome than he was.

Not Murray but Harry aka Enforcer of FTO and Collingwood 365 infamy, he has a good strike rate as a mod killing two forums.

On mods having an agenda, well walk a mile in my shoes.

I've had special rules created to ban me.
I've been banned and blamed for killing a site for using a picture of a bare arse from the sites own gallery as an avatar.... others could use it but not me.
I've been told because a serial pest stalks me it would be easier to rid the BB of me rather than keep dealing with the serial pest.
I'm a high maintenance member because I get attacked by other because of who I am/what I have done so I am a technically a pest.

Then I've had Eddie McGuire mention me by name as one of the posters on the Pies board that he takes notice of.

Interesting indeed.

Anyway this is dumb. OP was dumb, back-pedalling "lol I wuz joking!!!!111" post included. Again: Giving two people the same warning for the same thing isn't bias. Serious or not, the OP made no sense at all.

If you have a problem with something on BF, deal with it on BF. Not here.
