The Fish went off real early in the last that game, 10 goals from a bit over 3 quarters was unbelievable. Alessio came on & kicked 3 then, 27 goals from the full-forward spots :thumbsu:
Sure, Baker got a backhander, but in the 90's he could have legally been lined up, in play, and fixed up. I would have loved to see Mooney come through like a stream train and destroy him.
Exactly, great point. They remove this from the game, vermin like Baker flourish, AFL has another issue. Keep the square-up in the game, guys like Mooney may get a week if unlucky, game goes on.
what the fuck is going on.
he gets a week for hitting an injured players hand????
the fucker is out there, that means he is fit!!!!
Go back to Lloyd and Kretiuk, Kretiuk had a swing at his hand, and Velvet actually put his hand out there for Kretiuk to hit. He had another swing or two, realised it was pointless, then got 8 or so kicked on him!
he is a different cat that's for sure.

Have a look at this article, just sums up why the AFL is becoming a game for softcocks.
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/dads-fury-over-record-ban-for-st-kildas-steven-baker/story-e6frf9jf-1225885409278
Violence? Fuck me, all Baker did was a couple of jumper punches and a slap on the hand. It's a game of football between grown men FFS, not a game of fucking Auskick.
Jesus H Fucking Christ what is the world becoming?
/meltdown
It's happened to nearly every major sport already.
Sponsors and by extension television stations want a product that's family friendly, ergo the sport changes its image to be more friendly.
The NBA is the best example of this. During the 90's they didn't have to change anything because:
1. Michael Jordan was more popular than Jesus
2. Gangster rap was popular
3. The NBA had come along way from the early 80's days where you had bench clearing brawls and everyone was on cocaine
4. Ron Artest and Stephen Jackson hadn't jumped into the stands and started punching fuck out of the fans in Detroit yet
But even comparing the 90's to now, the NBA has been watered down massively. What used to be considered a normal foul now gets you ejected. If Jordan was playing today, without risk of getting pummeled every time he went to the hoop - he'd be scoring 80ppg.
Seriously, I was watching some highlights of Pacers vs Knicks, Bulls vs Knicks and Bulls vs Pacers from the 90's, and the hits those guys gave out would make a modern AFL player wet themselves. If they played like that in the NBA today half the All-Star roster would be playing like 4 games a year at most.
Same thing has happened in AFL. The only sports they haven't cleaned up are teh second tier ones like NRL and NHL - if you want some genuine violence, watch hockey or rugby I say.
The AFL removing the shirtfront was the absolute worst thing that could have happened to the sport. The whole 'head is sacrosanct' shit ruined the game imo, because it used to be gutsy to put your head over the ball knowing a guy like Hocking, Whelan, Voss or Pickett was around, so not everyone did it and it opened the game up a lot more. Now that everyone knows they can't be touched, EVERYONE puts their head over the ball and we get these huge scrums moving from contest to contest. Not only that, I reckon its cause more accidental injuries than the 2 or 3 big shirtfronts we used to see every year.

It was a 'won't somebody please think of the CHILDREN?!!' edict, I believe. AFL got worried they were losing folk to other, more girly games (like tennis and hopscotch) at the little league level, so they made Aussie Rules more girly in order to rectify this.
I'm with you, RJ. Shitful decision, bring back the vicious shirtfront and FUCK the children.

Shitful decision, bring back the vicious shirtfront and FUCK the children.
LOL...
epic statement.
Thing is, the shirtfront made players more careful and let the game flow a lot better. I reckon we see way more head high tackles, gang tackles with players arms pinned etc now because everyone just goes berserk knowing they can't get cleaned up by Choppy.
If I was running the AFL, I'd employ Byron Pickett as a 'special guest umpire' for one randomly selected match each round... his sole job is just to roam the packs ironing blokes out, from either team. Would bring in millions.

Will get reduced to 5 weeks if he's successful but 10 weeks if he isn't. Better get reduced or I will meltdown Yarden style. Even 5 weeks is still bullshit but at least it's not fucking ridiculous like 10-12 weeks.

Jon Brown vs Fevola
Apparently Brown held a bbq for the players and partners to celebrate Fevola's 200th the day after they lost to Richmond at the Gabba. After a few frothies and a sausage each it's alleged Fevola put the word on one of players mrs (not sure who's) and shit has hit the fan.
Brown then confronted Fevola about the situation and they went toe to toe in Brown's back yard. (not sure of the result but I would have had my money on Brown)

I think it was going to be 9 weeks if he pleaded guilty to all charges. He is only contesting two of the charges so it will only go up to 10 weeks if he is unsuccessful apparently. If he contested all 4 charges and lost it would go up to 12 weeks.
I'd say that's the reason they are just contesting 2 charges so if he loses and gets 10 weeks he will still be available for the second week of finals. If he gets 12 weeks that's season over.

Baker is the new Todd Curley the example case where the penalty doesn't fit the crime.

How did Stevie J hurt his hand?..... by swinging it back into Barker's head
If Baker was holding jumper it would have been nothing
.......the elbow to the eye was worth way more.
No bumping, no short jabs, scary times leading into the finals, you could lose important players for virtually nothing.
also Channel 10 had the camera men worded up, they where hovering and waiting.
haha I loved Pickett, he was just like a fucking bowling ball knocking down pins. It used to shit me no end when he'd get rubbed out.
when he would genuinely do it during play, and would cop as good as he gave, it was a credit to the game.
when he became a fat alco coon, who'd snipe from behind, then he became a self-parody.

You mean Baker is the old Baker example case where the penalty doesn't fit the crime. They made an example of him when he got done for 7 weeks for the Farmer incident where there was no video evidence and witnesses said Farmer ran into the back of Baker.
Now they've used the loading from that to fuck him over again this time. Nine fucking weeks for some niggling little jabs and a slap on the hand that most other players get away with.
Fucking unbelievable.
Guerra was pretty good at it,but has cut it out of his game ,hope to see it resurrected in a GF one day:thumbsu:
When Guerra was playing for the Saints I saw him lay one of the best hip and shoulders I've ever seen on Schammer when we were playing Freo at Subi. You could hear the hit from the top of the stand we were sitting in and Schammer was carried off. Me and a few other Saints supporters stood up and applauded him as he ran down to our end, the Freo supporters were all booing him of course.
Didn't even get looked at back then by the MRP/Tribunal, was just considered part of the game. Now he'd probably get 6 weeks for it or more due to their softcock family friendly rules.

phhht - we were damn lucky to get that one! He almost fucked that up as well. Managing to barely not fuck up another home final is no cause for celebration. Another home final was almost lost when we played the prelim the week before against St K. We hadn't even touched the ball (OK - Roger James had once or twice) in the first half of the first Q. We were getting slaughtered. Then G-Train kicked his 100th and there was an invasion of Saints fans on field which stopped their momentum and gave us a chance to regroup. We scraped over the line into the GF. We were always going to win once we got there.
This was after just missing finals in 98 (by a draw IIRC); spent 99 and 2000 going backwards (barely even won a game in 2000); 01-03 dominating, but fucking it up in finals. Losing home qualifiers we should have won to Collingwood, Hawthorn and Sydney because we were playing like shit (choking year on year). Games I went to that made me feel sick to my stomach to watch.
Even if you ignore all that, everything since 04 has been shit. The 07 season was OK win/loss - I'll admit - but questionable gameplan - and we fluked a few along the way - but we lost by 119! We were a disgrace on GF day. A record losing margin. I'm a port supporter - turning my club into a fucking joke is not acceptable.
Anyway - that's a brief outline. Happy to expand on any point

I'd be happy to have a 'fuck up' coach get me into two, and to win one. Dont be so spoilt.
The guy has lost it now, but to be critical of his career, in the way you are, is disrespectful.
Unprofessional PK. :thumbsd:
Well I've seen bucketloads and I've seen my club dump a legend that was 100x the player and person Choco ever was or will be, for not winning a GF (Russell Ebert), so the thing is that the 2/1 is effectively the lowest possible outcome from the playing list we had.
To watch a team not try, to not play as a team, to be fucked in the head in big games, to cave in and concede massive losses, to lose to lower ranked sides, to get thrashed in a final by our main rival and for many of these things to happen over and over and over is not acceptable in my mind, and in the minds of many other Port supporters. Look again at DTs avatar - why did he do that? To make a point - not just for a laugh.
Winning 04 does not absolve. 07 was rendered pointless by a record losing margin that was and will remain a total embarrassment for what was once my proud club. He is destroying everything about the club that got it into the AFL in the first place.
But they exist to win premierships.
and this is one of them.
I can accept losing when your team is not good enough, when they put in every effort but can't succeed, but not when they aren't playing at their best - getting the best out of themselves as individuals and as a team, and when a coach accepts this and is the cultivator of it.

phhht - we were damn lucky to get that one!
Very unlikely to happen but fuck I'd laugh...

If all teams are at their absolute best ,no injuries everyone playing to their peak,100% accurate umpiring,(will never happen)I think the Hawks can do the Cats,in the real world anything can happen.
Saints Backline V Hawks Forward line would be the big test.
It would be an ugly game though just scrum after scrum,(Anyone's game, but would favour the Saints.) while Hawks V Cats would be excitting free flowing and tough.
Don't think the dogs can beat Saints or Cats
Or Pies will do well against Saints but on a good day might get the Cats, but I wouldn't put my money on them.
Think the Cats are better than the Saints though.
Freo are the wild card, they will be very hard to beat in WA.
So in the end the draw,September form and injuries will decide who wins this year, just like every other year.

The big drawback of being popular is that you end up hopelessly overrated. I reckon that's why the Pies have been so shithouse for the past 50 years, and only managed to win a flag when everyone actually knew they were a bit shithouse but didn't realise that everyone else was even more shithouse. 1990 was the biggest bradbury ever.
Edit: not sure where that anti-Collingwood rant came from now that i read it back. Certainly wasn't called for.

Fucken oath, and it makes it hard to see how Freo will do well in the finals now, though they have a good run home, not sure how the numbers stack up but they should still be a top 4 chance. You never know, with two home finals they could still get there, it is Freo though of course.

Jather Fack

not really, 1990 was a bit before we were really there, and 2007 we were gutted without our three top midfielders, and, as it turned out, on a massive downswing. In both those eras we did win a flag or two though, so all good.
As for Bradburys, neither Geelong or Hawthorn weren't around when you thought they would be and we were still on the up, so there was a nice little pie hole there.

I reckon we (Saints) should still be able to beat Hawthorn if both sides are at full strength.

I was in odessa in the Ukraine. I went down to this bar with free wifi to set up my putter to listen to it via afl.com.
Of course it took me the first fucking half of the game using every little trick i could b4 i could get the fucking gay ass website to work.
In that 2nd half i smashed 8-10 massive pints of beer...i was so pumped up. They had table service which was good and i was screaming my tits off so i showed the staff "aussie rules" and explained my team was in an epic final so they didn't kick me out.

So, in all likelyhood, given its an idea I've just thought of 5 minutes ago, given little thought to the development, and figured, hey, narrative consistent with restorative justice, thats all the rage at the moment, Ill give it a go.
With this push for a video goal umpire to be introduced, what are your thoughts on the idea of going the whole way, having it there for goal umpiring decisions, AND, contentious decisions that directly lead to a goal being scored or disallowed, which would then lead to a ruling that, if the footage is reviewed at the end of that quarter, and deemed to be 100% the wrong decision, the team that were wronged, get a set shot for goal, directly in front, 50m out, before time on is blown to start the next quarter?
Reduces the effect umpires have on what I would think are approximately two results a week, lessens the chance for the Ray Chamberlains of this world to get their name out there, and you're very unlikely to leave the game pissing and moaning about the umpiring costing us, which in turn would encourage more people to become an umpire at grass roots level.
Thoughts?

* - if theres a decision during the game that leads to a goal being kicked or disallowed, then they review it at the next quarter break.
* - team that gets the shit decision against them then gets a set shot for goal 50 out before the next quarter starts.

Hi to all you Eagles fans
Even though it’s become quite the annus horribilis this year on the field, there’s still plenty going on over on the West Coast board.
Make sure you log on to have your say on the direction of the team and how we can turn things around – there’s discussions on everything from weekly team selections, to drafting, trading and de-listing.
Got a view on Woosha’s position? There’s a thread for that too.
Is your favourite player not getting enough recognition? Then give him 5 votes for him in the weekly voting thread.
Interested in how the kids are going? Check out the WAFL thread for in-depth discussion each week.
Or even if you’ve had enough of footy altogether for a while, join in the push for Wirra to win Dancing With The Stars!
See you on the board soon.
Your friendly mods,
Larrikin, Quinz, Keyser and Fivey
Fuck me, things are grim when the only thing the west cokers have got left is some ex player winning that rubbish!

Seriously though, Tigs fans on bigfooty are acting like Reiwoldt has already kicked a bag and the game's been won. They're not 15th and Freo aren't 4th for nothing, sure we've got injuries but better talent all over the park and 2 genuine superstars that can easily take the game away from them.
Don't think it'll be a belting but Freo are playing Etihad well this year and should do more than enough to see off the Tigs.

Swans are mediocre, mid table team at best. Freo not so this year. The blues were treating us with a similar lack of respect a couple of weeks ago. Didn't turn out so well for them.

Alberton Cry
A long, long time ago...
I can still remember
How Choco used to make me smile.
And I knew if we had our chance
We’d have smashed em in the last 07 dance
And, maybe, I’d been happy for a while.
But July made him shiver
As he cried and his top lip shivered.
Bad news on the doorstep;
Was he pushed or had he lept.
I thought it was pathetic when he cried
like an assfucked innocent virgin bride,
But something touched me deep inside
The day Port Power died.
So bye-bye, Choco tonight.
The pies smashed em heavy whilst I had a few bevies,
and yards hung himself and died.
And them good old pie boys made sure Williams had another cry
Singin’, "this’ll be the day the Power die.
"this’ll be the day the Power die."
