OK, here's the official thread for the first test.

Hilf is in so is Hauritz, go Aussies

Jather Fack
8th July 2009, 18:59
Just going to repost my highlight thus far:

Mo apparently reckons McGill was a better bowler than Warnie and should have played in the '05 series. Off to a flyer there Mo :thumbsu:

pickman
8th July 2009, 19:03
At least Mitch didn't bowl it to second slip like Harmy did in the last series :thumbsu:

Hugh Jorgen
8th July 2009, 19:15
Can't believe they left Clark out. We may as well be playing 10 against 11 with Hauritz in the side.

Would have been nice to have batted first too, the pitch looks as flat as fuck already.

RoosterLad
8th July 2009, 19:15
Yes it is a nice pitch to have a bat on. Need some early ones, don't want to let these fuckers get away to a flier like they did so often in 05.

Ron
8th July 2009, 19:29
Fuck me no Clark, what a shocker of a decision already.

If Clark was there they would be about 7/10 now, not this 0/20 bullshit.

Bob.
8th July 2009, 19:33
Fuck yeah, what a catch!

Bopara is fucking shit.

Ron
8th July 2009, 20:30
What a great catch by Clarke to remove the pommy captain.

Good ball by MJ, but sensational catch by the NSW champion.

pickman
8th July 2009, 20:30
STRAUSS GONE

So so so stoked to see Hilfy is playing. Will tear the Poms a new one. Whose the fourth bowler I only just started watching?

RoosterLad
8th July 2009, 20:44
We didn't pick one.

bigburger
8th July 2009, 20:48
We didn't pick one.

Evidently.

Its like the ACB deliberately choose the three dumbest cuntloads in the world to be Aussie Selectors. Atleast Norths playing.

RoosterLad
8th July 2009, 20:51
MJ gun.

pickman

Suck my dick Bopara you useless weak prick!!!

Another great catch by a NSW gun.

NSW > Poms

Great time to get back on here.

Haha, how fuckin bad does it look getting out to a cutter. :D

I'd have taken this first session if you offered it to me this arv. Good start:thumbsu:

RoosterLad

That was the worst innings in Ashes history.

Its a great start Mancey, pitch looks alright.

pickman
8th July 2009, 21:06
Good start for the Aussiesm three wickets and all the batsmen looking uncomfortable at the short stuff :thumbsu:

Mancey
8th July 2009, 21:08
Need the skunk out before i'll get too excited, but if they were none for lots at lunch i deffo would have been upset.

Side note. First time i've been able to watch cricket in HD. It's fail, fake SBS HD, but it still looks pretty rad

Hugh Jorgen
8th July 2009, 21:08
Yep, we definitely took the honours in that session.

No surprise the West Aussies featured in all 3 dismissals, a great catch by Hussey and then two brilliant bits of bowling from MJ.

RoosterLad
8th July 2009, 21:09
First time I'm watching cricket in HD too, on SBS but it looks pretty fucken good. Only just got the tv last night so perfectly timed for the Ashes.

SBS HD is only 720p, so it's Clayton's HD but yeah still looks pretty rad.

Even though I have Foxtel, I don't have Foxtel HD so I'm watching SBS instead for the HD picture :thumbsu:

We could do with a Peter Taylor miracle right now.

The only way Hauritz will get a wicket here is if the batsmen fall asleep through boredom and collapse on their stumps.

Mancey
8th July 2009, 23:57
Fuck Macgilla is as big an epic fail as a host as he was a cricketer

Hugh Jorgen
9th July 2009, 00:17
Yeah don't know whose idea it was to give MacGill the hosting job, he's fucking shithouse. Would be better if Greg Matthews was hosting.

Marto has been surprisingly good so far though, thought he may have been a bit of a dud. Also thought Rodney Hogg would be involved a bit more, he just did a couple of minutes before play and then fucked off.

Mancey
9th July 2009, 00:19
Nah i had faith in Marto.

He may never have been much of a talker, but when he did speak it was usually relevant.

Wonder what Deano is doing

Where are you you pricks...talking to myself

Ron
9th July 2009, 00:31
Another great catch by a NSW champ, fuck me we would be stuffed if it wasn't for NSW, three sensational catches by NSW players are keeping us in the game.

Hugh Jorgen
9th July 2009, 00:32
Haven't heard much of old Deano since he called that Saffer bloke a terrorist. He was a pretty shit commentator anyway. Shame SBS couldn't have got someone like Fleming or Kerry O'Keefe to host it.

Thank fuck, we finally got another wicket. The Hilf strikes again.

Mancey
9th July 2009, 00:36
Deano had a touch of the "I's" in his commentary

"I would have done this...."
"I remember when I..."

But he wasn't too bad. Still working in the subcontinent i think

Hugh Jorgen
9th July 2009, 00:44
The Pommy commentators aren't too bad but I'm already sick of them going on about how much we're missing Warne & McGrath.

FFS they retired almost 3 years ago, it's not exactly breaking news.

Mancey
9th July 2009, 00:55
Hahahahahahaah

KP out to Hauritz off a ball that would have been a wide. So perfect

Hugh Jorgen
9th July 2009, 00:56
Fuck me, Hauritz takes a wicket.

Nice of Pietersen to get himself out. Fucking terrible shot.

Mancey
9th July 2009, 00:57
Absolutely spastic shot.

Jather Fack

9th July 2009, 01:23
Just showed a shot of the WAGS, one of them looked a bit like Erin.

Did Benny C get a call up over there?

Jather Fack

tomorrow nights beer night. By this time I'd reckon i'd be favourably comparing Erin to that Welsh tart with the big tits that sung the anthem that i am currently in love with.

Yeah could be, must belong to one of the newer guys you would think. Maybe even Hauritz, Haddin or the Hilf?

You'd think you could do better than that though if you were in the Aussie team. She makes Mark Waugh's old missus look like a glamour.

Anything dropped short was easily put away and watchful batsmen were difficult to dislodge.

He lost the bulk of his fans, I'd put money on it.

Completely misread public opinion and thought Punter & the boys were vulnerable for him to finally unleash the hatred and vendetta he had against them - but he came out of it looking like a complete fuckwit.

Yeah I agree with you boys pretty much. I used to really, really like Roebuck, read all his articles, enjoyed his insights, at one stage rated him higher then pretty much anyone else who commented on cricket. Then after the Sydney test, he threw all that out the window and went for some Robert-Walls-levels of bias and hatred toward Australia, ans it pretty much all fell apart fromt here. You can tell it is affecting his logic to a point even - re the 'short balls easily put away' comment. Maybe he just got to a certain age and packed it in mentally, preferring to fantasise about the red raw arses of over 9000 sobbing teenage boys during play and then simply make up what he wished had happened in his report. (Out on the field obviously, not with the boys. Most on that stuff would be unprintable, let alone unintelligible).

Kingy

Only thing I didn't get was why he didn't maintain the short barrage?

The pitch was meant to be flat and slow, but he was hitting a nice length and getting them to rear up against the *****... should've been more of it.

And Siddle got KP out, fucking umpire.

Speaking of KP, that lying prick is just trying to keep Hauritz in the side for the next Test.

I don't blame Hauritz, because he's quite simply not up to it, but if he's selected for another Test, we're completely fucked.

Fucking dumb selectors!! Everybody but them wanted a 4 man pace attack; and yet their spastic fixation on playing a spinner, regardless of whether they're shit or not, is going to come back to bite us on the arse.

The worst thing is, they'll probably bring in MacDonald for Hauritz, so we're going to go from a half-arsed spinner, to a half-arsed all-rounder.

Swann has 34 wickets and 26 have come against the Windies...not exactly premo scalps.

Frankly he looks like a club trundler. Panasar looks far more likely to cause issues.

yeah I do Kingy - not as much as footy, but yeah. I'm no great analyser of the game but enjoy it. Have been watching since I was about 13 - started with one-dayers when 1) I had no idea what an over was, what lbw meant, what a slip was and where the fuck deep backward point is, etc, and 2) it took me quite a few games to realise they changed ends at the end of each over (the changeover was always in the ads, so I never realised! The Fox Sports website usually has an afternoon wrap up of the English press articles, cannot wait for this one. They turn quicker than fryingpan at a transvestite convention.
And it begins:

Day two of the first Ashes Test saw all the English high-hope and hoopla merchants choked by the bitter taste of reality served up by Messrs Katich and Ponting.

The Sun's chief correspondent foresees England having to rely on the elements.England's bowlers flayed the Aussie attack to all corners in the morning, and Andrew Flintoff won his brief duel with Phillip Hughes, but the Australia skipper and his reborn opener then each simply put a foot on the England throat and refused to budge.

This led Steven Howard, chief sports writer at The Sun to lament England's early crow at the old enemy's "demise".

"Andrew Strauss's team trudged off the pitch in time-honoured tradition - heads on chests, shoulders slumped, and the imprint of an Aussie boot plainly visible on their backsides," Howard writes.

"Where did it all go right for Ponting and Co.?

"Well, as we should know by now, there is no such thing as a downtrodden group of confidence-shot Aussie cricketers. Just as there is no such thing as dull Brazilian footballers. Or vertically challenged American basketball players. Or a Springboks side that plays by the rules.

"No, Australia always come up with something. Especially when they arrive over here, sniff the air, and detect the unmistakable aroma of misplaced English swagger. And then listen to, and read, all the extravagant claims of the backers of the fifth-worst team in world cricket.

"There is little reason why Australia cannot take their score to 550-plus tonight - a lead of at least 120 - and leave England hoping the rain forecast for Saturday arrives on time. Not bad for a team of no hopers."

Fifth worst team in world cricket is a slight over-estimation, isn't it?

Agree with you Kingy, has done his best work in both forms of the game at 6. I've never been a subscriber to the arguement that you haven't proven yourself as a test batsmen until you've made it as a No.3 or 4.

The skills of batting at 6 are definately different but no less important. Steve Waugh and Adam Gilchrist were two legends of the crease who did their best work at 6 & 7 and like Tugga & Gilly, Huss bats well with the tale.

Personally I'd rather Clarke at No.4, he's more suited to that spot.
