Hadn't listened to them in YEARS until recently. I pretty much went through a stage where the only music I listened to was Metallica, Pantera, Slayer, Tupac and Biggie (and I wonder why I have anger management issues... lol).
Anyway, started cran king some old tunes the other day, and fuck me, Metallica really are just the greatest thing ever invented. And by 'Metallica' I of course mean Metallica in the 80's.
That string of Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, And Justice for All and the Black Album has to be the best four album stretch of any band in history.
Pump some Sanitarium and agree with me.

Yep. An important part of my childhood and that fucker got it right the other day - music IS a fucking time machine. Strange you don't rate Kill 'em All, but that's life I guess.
Well done rick:thumbsu: I have a feeling we'll be provided with some tour dates shortly...

Yeah 80's Metallica were just incredible. Even there b-sides were brilliant.
Their concerts with the symphony orchestra were genius. I can't recall any other band doing anything like it prior? Certainly not on the same scale. Was mind blowing at the time.
Their songs are journeys, like much of the old school metal. Don't make 'em like that anymore. :(

Man it is so fucking cool... For some reason I can actually pull of hard when I am smashed when I normally struggle.
My girl is a freak on the drums. By far the best track to play on there is ONE.
The guitar riff is out of this world, love it !!!!!!!!

I have some mates who bring their guitar as well. So one plays bass the other lead.
Girls rotate on the drums.

That's on the original as well. Epic concentration required for such a large song.

Is Orion on their Guitar Hero set list? I've made up a CD-R full of heavy metal instrumentals, and that glorious motherfucker kicks the whole thing off.
Nice things, heavy metal instrumentals.

I wonder how they felt about that sort of thing for a comeback :(

If I remember rightly the U.S military used similar tactics when they invaded Panama in 1988. They set up these HUGE amp stacks out the front of wherever Manuel Noriega was hiding out (think it was an embassy) and they blasted the joint with heavy metal music for three days straight or something.
Made me want to start an international ruckas so the fuckers would do that in front of MY house. Get the beer and smoke a fucking bowl!:thumbsu: ;)

Best 4 album run in history?
What about:
Led Zeppelin I
Led Zeppelin II
Led Zeppelin III
Led Zeppelin IV
Houses of the Holy
Physical Graffiti
That's a 6 album run of critically acclaimed master pieces.

Sanitarium is probably one of the best Metallica songs ever. Actually make that one of the best songs ever. Underrated compared to their more popular songs like One and Master of Puppets though.
It does make me sad to think how many more great songs they could have had if they didn't turn to shit though. I guess Death Magnetic was kind of a step in the right direction but I doubt they will ever be as good as they once were.

I will include Pearl Jam in here, but with a *
Ten, Vs, Vitalogy & Merkin Ball*
*4th album is No Code, Merkin Ball is an EP. It's not worth arguing if I include No Code...
Shame Lars is such a fuckwit.
Indeed.
How Hetfield never punched the absolute living fuck out of him in the 'Some Kind Of Monster' doco is beyond me...
As most Gen Xers, was a massive Metallica fan in my mid-late teens. Older step-brother introduced me to them (along with good weed :thumbsu: ).

I'm joking about that. To suffer from LMS, I'd actually have to achieve something (i.e. to overcompensate for my diminutive 5'9 stature - 5'10 with shoes), which isn't going to happen.

5'9 ain't that little, still, you're nearly 5 inches shorter than me. People probably think you're just an angry fucker fullstop!
Pearl Jam? No thanks.
Fuck, I think of them, more than Metallica, as being the biggest band from my generation. Probably the band that appealed to more people in hindsight, but fucking awesome nonetheless.

Yeah I know what you mean, and I like some earlier stuff of theirs like Corduroy, Rearview Mirror etc. but their sound has been so blatantly copied and influential on the whole Triple M Corporate Rock sound, that I can't help but hate them.

Bob Rock's malign influence as producer on that band, and that album in particular, CANNOT be stated enough. Bob even played fucking bass on the album as they were between Newstead leaving and Trujillo arriving, then pro-tooled it to the fuckhouse. The snare... For fuck's sake. Animals get killed by snares, and a snare helped kill that album.
Only good St Anger track - Shoot Me Again

I was resistent to Metallica like most metal for alot of my teenage years, then 3 or 4 mates who were obsessed with them made it their mission to convert me.
So every none and then during reccess or lunch one would walk up and pop an earphone in my ear, and be like "oi listen to this solo". Didn't really convert me that way.
Then at every single fucing party one of them would eventually put on a Metallica mix when everyone else was too fucked to notice or change it.
Then the catalyst when I actually decided I liked them was we had a session, bought a bag each, they played nothing but Metallica for 5-6 hours. When I woke up I had master of puppets going through my head, and have liked them since

Right now he's making better music than Metallica - Endgame is awesome.
Megadeth were amazing when I saw them a few weeks ago. It's a pity Slayer had to pull out of the Adelaide show though. Still, it meant a 1.5 set from Megadeth and that's who I was really there to see.
